A 2023 Roundup of Top Atlassian Updates

With each passing year, Atlassian is adding several new feathers to its cap. From improved user interfaces to strong security, and stronger partnerships to powerful new service management capabilities – 2023 was an exciting and prosperous year for Atlassian. Here’s a roundup of the top Atlassian updates in 2023:

AI Focus

Since the beginning of the year, Atlassian has been making relentless efforts to integrate AI capabilities into its portfolio. One of the biggest announcements in 2023 was the unveiling of new AI-powered virtual agents in ITSM. Powerful Generative AI capabilities in Jira Service Management aim to help enterprises deliver exceptional employee and customer service experiences at scale. The launch of Atlassian Intelligence will enable organizations to achieve the impossible with the magic of AI across all of Atlassian’s cloud products.

The company is also hosting the Unleash Event to attract Agile, DevOps, and platform engineering enthusiasts from around the world and inform them about the latest innovations in developer experience and AI.

Increased Automation

To improve organizational productivity, Atlassian has introduced several automation capabilities across most of its tools. These capabilities enable users to deliver high-quality work with agility and businesses to enhance their competitive advantage. With more than 10 billion automated actions performed since the launch of Atlassian Automation in 2020, Atlassian has taken the platform even further across Atlassian apps and third-party products. This evolution will help software, IT, and business teams collaborate better and drive efficiency.

Multiple Partnerships and Acquisitions

2023 also saw Atlassian expand its business through several key partnerships. The company acquired the leading IT data quality management platform, AirTrack. With AirTrack, Jira Service Management users can get a more comprehensive and accurate picture of all critical assets, minimizing operational risks, costs, and attack surfaces. Similarly, Atlassian’s acquisition of the video messaging tool Loom will enable Jira users to visually log issues. It will also allow leaders to use videos to connect with employees at scale, project managers to send tailored video updates to clients, and HR teams to share personalized welcome videos with new employees.

Superior Developer Experience

In 2023, Atlassian announced the launch of Compass, its new developer experience platform. The product has been built to overcome the challenges and complexity that software development teams face daily across security, configuration, automation, and more. The platform brings distributed software architecture and development teams into a single, unified place, thus reducing cognitive load, improving service health, and limiting sprawl.

Atlassian Cloud Improvements

Between July and August 2023, Atlassian brought about many changes to the Atlassian Cloud. From introducing data residency for improved data hosting in Jira Product Discovery to offering more flexibility to control user accounts – in mid-2023, many changes were brought about across Atlassian administration. The company also introduced many additions to the Jira platform, including advanced roadmaps, better issue searching, and improved automation capabilities.

Expert-led Advisory Services

The launch of Atlassian’s expert-led Advisory Services has got partners and customers extremely excited. With plans that cater to the unique requirements of different organizations, these progressive levels of service and engagement enable access to an ever-expanding catalog of domain-focused services. Through the Advisory Services subscription, customers can accelerate their cloud transformation journey and make the most of design, implementation, and support best practices.

End of Support for Server Products

In 2023, Atlassian also announced the end of support for server products. From Feb. 15, 2024, users will no longer have access to technical support, security updates, or bug fixes for vulnerabilities in their server products and apps. Since the end of support puts any organization at increased risk of attacks, Atlassian is offering much-needed guidance, limited-time offers, and associated support to organizations kick-starting their journey to the cloud and helping them avoid costly data breaches and security risks.
