Summary
X-mx Infosoft sought a robust data Primary Storage that prioritized data protection, security, and efficiency. With a vast amount of sensitive HR and training data to manage, X-mx Infosoft needed to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of their client's information. This use case demonstrates how X-mx Infosoft addressed its data Storage challenges by leveraging AWS services and implementing a secure and efficient Primary Storage. The collaboration with Enreap experts and adoption of best practices resulted in a successful implementation that met the needs of X-mx Infosoft and its clients. We have suggested Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, which provides fully managed shared storage in the AWS Cloud with the popular data access and management capabilities providing the compatibility and features that X-mx Infosoft needs, all with the flexibility, scalability, and cost benefits of a cloud-based solution. In the future customer will switch over to FSx as its primary storage.
Challenges
- The customer has demanded performance requirements in terms of millisecond file operation latency, Nearly 1-2 GB/s of throughput and thousands of IOPS that need to be met by the proposed solution.
- X-mx Infosoft encountered challenges in securely storing and backing up large volumes of HR and training data stored on-premise. The complexity
and volume of data made traditional file server storage methods impractical and posed risks to data security. - X-mx Infosoft demanded stringent data protection measures to safeguard their sensitive HR and training data against potential threats such as data breaches or loss.
- X-mx Infosoft faced limitations in scalings storage and backup capabilities due to the limited capacity of their on-premise infrastructure. Also Hardware and software maintenance is a continuous challenge, requiring regular updates, repairs, and replacements that can disrupt operations.
Solution
- enreap’s solution for X-mx Infosoft’s Storage needs on AWS involved a thorough assessment and a detailed plan to ensure a smooth transition to
the cloud. - enreap’s team evaluated the size of the data, which amounted to 25 TB, along with File server configurations and network capabilities.
- Set up Amazon FSx NetApp ONTAP for Windows File Server. It offers advanced data management features such as primary storage, Backup solution, data deduplication, and data compression to optimize Backup efficiency and reduce costs.
- For data transfer, we used AWS DataSync. This involved deploying DataSync agents on the local servers to manage the data movement process.
- To maintain security and compliance, AWS CloudTrail was employed.
- To monitor the health of the system and track performance, we used Amazon CloudWatch.
- AWS Key Management Service (KMS) was used to manage encryption keys, providing a secure and compliant way to protect sensitive data.
